The core of choosing basketball jersey fabrics is to prioritize functional fabrics that are quick drying and breathable, while balancing comfort, durability, and athletic needs.
1、 Mainstream fabric types and characteristics
Polyester fiber (polyester): The most recommended core fabric. Fast drying and strong, it can quickly remove sweat without sticking to the body, with excellent breathability and wear resistance. It is lightweight and does not affect the range of motion, making it the first choice for most professional basketball uniforms.
Mesh fabric (polyester fiber+mesh structure): Fully breathable, with mesh design to accelerate air circulation, suitable for hot weather or sweat prone individuals. The disadvantage is poor insulation, and it may appear slightly thin for daily wear.
Cotton blend (cotton+polyester fiber/spandex): high comfort, skin friendly and soft, retaining the fit of cotton, while improving quick drying and elasticity through blending, suitable for daily training or scenarios with high comfort requirements. The disadvantage is that when the proportion of pure cotton is too high, it is easy to become heavy after sweating.
Spandex (elastic fiber): often added as an auxiliary ingredient (content 5% -10%) to enhance fabric elasticity and fit, making limb movements more relaxed. It is rarely used alone and is often blended with polyester fiber and cotton.
2、 Key selection dimensions
Core requirements priority: Choose pure polyester fiber/mesh fabric for competitions or high-intensity training, and cotton blend for daily wear or light training.
Breathability&quick drying: Prioritize fabric labels such as “quick drying” and “moisture wicking”, or mesh and striped breathable structures to avoid pure cotton (which absorbs sweat but does not sweat, and is prone to getting wet and cold).
Elasticity&Fit: Ensure that the fabric has a certain degree of stretchability, especially at the cuffs and hem positions, to avoid tight and loose movements that affect coordination during movement.
Durability: Choose a style with moderate fabric density and neat stitching. Polyester fiber fabric has stronger resistance to pilling and tearing, making it suitable for long-term high-frequency use.
3、 Avoiding pitfalls reminder
Do not choose pure cotton fabric: it is heavy and difficult to dry after absorbing sweat during exercise, which can easily cause catching a cold or affect movement.
Avoid synthetic fabrics that are too thick or not breathable: although they are durable, they have poor breathability and can become stuffy and sticky after sweating.
Do not blindly pursue “high elasticity”: excessive spandex content may reduce breathability, and the standard is “quick rebound after stretching”.
